FOTOGESCHICHTE – published in German – is an internationally renowned academic journal dedicated to photography, its history and its relationship with society.

FOTOGESCHICHTE considers photography to be a cultural, political, aesthetic and social phenomenon and is always interested in the societal as well as the aesthetical setting of photographic images. Further, FOTOGESCHICHTE sees photographic history as a form of cultural history.

Frequency: quarterly. Each issue consists of 80 pages and has four to six scholarly articles by renowned authors, numerous reviews of books, catalogues and exhibitions as well as information on the current research of photographic history.
